Epipactis gigantea--Stream Orchid
The stream orchid likes lots of water. That is not surprising. But it is extra particular about water: it like chlorine-free moving water. In spite of that, the stream orchids at the UC Botanical Garden seem to be doing well. They are about 50' from the creek on a slope. I guess it is the bank of the creek, but I think they must be surviving on irrigation, not the creek water. These orchids are not flamboyantly beautiful like florist orchids; they have their own warm, subtle beauty. Blooming now, don't miss them!
