Adenostoma fasciculatum--Chamise

I love that name, "Adenostoma fasciculatum." It just rolls off the tongue. Long and latin, if you can say that name and know what it is, you belong to the club. I don't know what club that is, but some kind of club! Not very many natives are used for cut flowers, but this one is, and I can see why. It is good in tiny vases on its own, or drooping over the side of a vase, setting off the more colorful blooms. It is native to the coast ranges and is drought tolerant. It likes full sun and good drainage. It grows about 3-10' tall and wide and makes a good evergreen screen or hedge. Indians used the hard wood for arrow points and shafts. Blooming now at the UC Botanical Garden
