Sweet Peas
We are just back from a road trip. We visited several garden south of here. On our way to Hearst Castle, we saw hillsides of pink. We we stopped to investigate, we found sweet peas. Very lovely and very fragrant. I wonder if someone planted them. Or maybe they escaped from a garden on their own? Will they come back next year? Have they been there for years and years? I guess it will always be a mystery.

Sweet pea (Lathyrus odoratus) and Perennial Sweet Pea (Lathyrus latifolius) are both sporadically naturalized in California, according to the Jepson Manual. According to my records the flowers of the perennial sweet pea are visited by the umber skipper and the snowberry clearwing (possibly other leps I don't know about).
